The title comes from part III of the “Quatuor Pour la Fin du Temps”. Messiaen writes: “The abyss is Time with its sadness, its weariness. The birds are the opposite to Time; they are our desire for light, for stars, for rainbows, and for jubilant songs.” Messiaen didn't have a negative connotation to the Apocalyps. His thoughts were more like a colourful event and a reason for optimism. In the painting I took the freedom to show a more dark side of the Apocalyps, so this is my personal view, not the view of Messiaen.
Almost all my paintings are inspired by books or music, they are a tribute to a certain author, composer or artist and his/her work. Of course I would be happy if a painting encourages someone to read the book or listen to the music.
All works are ready to hang. The ecoline paintings are framed with a frame of your choice: light oak or black aluminum. The paintings have a passe-partout and a plate of glass on the front. Oil paintings have a wire on the back so they can be hung.
