Christian Gastaldi est un artiste, autodidacte, né à Sète au bord de la Méditerranée. Il commence par travailler à l’étranger (Zimbabwe, Hollande, Brunei, Argentine, Angola, Azerbaïdjan) en tant que géophysicien. Puis l’art devient nécessité et les ateliers se déplacent. Aujourd’hui c’est au bord de la plage à Frontignan qu’il continue de créer.
« Je m’intéresse à la matière ; celle pauvre des éléments du commun, celle qui acquiert une humanité de l’oubli et de la négligence. Je travaille alors comme un peintre qui n’utiliserait pas de peinture, un poète qui détruirait les mots. Je rythme mes toiles par déchirures pour créer une poésie graphique, brute, subtile.»
Ses œuvres sont présentes dans de nombreuses collections particulières à l’étranger et en France. Elles sont visibles dans des lieux publics à Paris, Barcelone et New-York.
