Every centimeter of every day became a kilometer of thoughts from the past to arrive mindlessly in the present. In the end, only facial expressions react. The stone is hard, but with its earth energy it transmits waves and cubic energy that it retains, even after it is extracted from the quarry. The mind and body have been strengthened and reborn.

I processed the stone using the same method that I did when I made sculptures out of wood. I simply scanned for the cut, making no corrections or finishes. This gave me a rhythm composed of various geometric shapes, which I assembled to make the body. Every time I turned on my angle grinder with a 230mm disc in order to attain a balance of shape, I sought out the cleanest cut I could locate.

Rok Bogataj was born in Ljubljana (Slovenia) in 1974. He graduated in 2002 at the Academy of fine Arts in Venice. His work is expressed through different mediums such as sculpture, photography, video, sound and drawing.
He composes archaeology of daily life using the materials that surround us in particularly plastic, wood and metal. He gives to these elements a new aesthetic present with the process of melts, moulds and reproduction. The use of vulgar materials and the practice of moulding (by the use of plastic bags for example) in the process of reproduction are his ways of representing sensuality.
He is currently working on the traces, both as a form to investigate, and a proof of a more or less recent origin that we should remember.
His work was presented in various solo and group exhibitions since 1997.
He lives and works in Ljubljana.
