Robert Van Den Herik
Robert Van Den Herik is a contemporary Dutch artist. Drawing inspiration from magical realism and surrealism, particularly from the works of Carel Willink and Salvador Dali, he embarked on his artistic journey. Following his education at the Design Academy Eindhoven, he initially pursued a career as a product designer for different companies. It was during this time that he introduced his own innovative product called the Shantala baby bath, revolutionizing the way babies are bathed.
As his artistic exploration deepened, he delved into the realm of "Art versus Design." He began creating lighting fixtures, furniture, and garden decorations, all meticulously crafted by hand. In these creations, aesthetics often took precedence over functionality, allowing his artistic vision to flourish.

The Hanging G-cupboard.
Hanging G-cupboard – A step further: away from both the wall and the floor.
The Hanging G-cupboard is suspended and detached, not just from the wall, but also from the floor. The G-cupboard is therefore not a ‘standing piece of furniture’. There are only two points of contact with the floor.
The cupboard is fully handmade and unique.
The Hanging G-cupboard harmoniously unites several contrasting aspects: the storage space itself consist of a steel plate and a coarse structure, the columns are polished;
from the front, the cupboard looks robust like a massive suspended entity, from the side and from the air you wonder how a cupboard can be so slimline;
the outside is made of steel plate, the inside has ash wood shelves;
the columns suggest classicism, the illustrations sprayed by graffiti artist Philip “Amatic” Bosman (front and back) refer to modernism.
The Hanging-G is part of his latest cupboard project. His aspiration is to approach cupboards in a different way. He wants to let them participate in the discussion between art and design, preserve their functionality, change their shape, make them independent from the wall and place them in the space as a participant in architecture and art. He hopes that his cupboards will provide the space with another use.

Reïncarnation.
Reïncarnation.
This chair has been manufactured from waste.
Waste found on the street.
Awareness of environmental pollution began in early 1990, an emerging problem.
The impact of environmental insisted clear through.
People were slowly conscious about the way of dealing with materials.
We thought about how we need to deal with materials, improved manufacturing processes that are less harmful to the environment, less materials, easy to separate from each other, recycling waste, etc.
In 1992 Robert van den Herik worked, in context of a command at the Design Academy Eindhoven, for a renowned manufacturer of office furniture.He was commissioned to analyze their production processes and then moderate vision and concept work and design an environmentally friendly office chair.
As an example was giving a good running Office chair.
After the analysis phase, he get a tsunami of ideas to come. An environmentally friendly product All aspects were covered, to reuse (now called thecradle to cradle).
During this assignment Robert van den Herik made themselves very aware of the problem of the environment.
Robert gave themselves in that period, the assignment to design was purely made from waste materials found on the street a chair. The chair also had to be functionaland look like a well-designed product. Although the functionality inferior in design. More artificial.
The chair "Reïncarnation" was soon born.
A decaying back of a wooden antique chair and a lot of old wire formed the basis for this chair.
The old oxidized steel wire was deformed into a seat with legs.
The metal was attached to/on the wooden backrest.
An unusual combination, wood with metal. Together they form the Chair "Reïncarnation".
The ultimate recycle piece of furniture par excellence.
Beautifully designed art object.
More an object to look at.
It is a museum piece.
The chair has always served as an example
Estimated price: € 4.500
