Biography
Chantal Proulx is a contemporary French-Canadian painter. After experimenting with several media such as sculpture, painting on silk, and watercolor, she finally adopted acrylic painting and mixed techniques. Her goal through her art is to make living environments more joyful and appealing to the eye, creating emotion in the spectator. Proulx uses vibrant colors and quick gestures in an almost unconscious manner. She adds texture with graphite, watercolor pencils, or charcoal while the paint is still wet.
Chantal Proulx’s paintings are in private collections in Canada, United States, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Netherlands, Singapore, Austria, China.

Démarche artistique
Chantal Proulx affectionne l'abstrait, le minimalisme et l'impressionnisme.
Les tableaux abstraits de Chantal Proulx prennent toujours vie de la même façon. Les couleurs acryliques sont d’abord utilisées pour elles-mêmes, sans retenue, parce qu’elles transposent l’émotion du moment. L’intuition guide la main et libère les gestes spontanés. Couche après couche, des formes et des textures s’imposent. Elle utilise parfois des pochoirs qu'elle conçoit elle-même afin de créer des textures intéressantes. Le tableau se construit petit à petit. Elle masque alors certaines parties du tableau pour mieux en faire ressortir d’autres, puis ajoute des détails. De cette combinaison de spontanéité et d’organisation naissent des œuvres uniques que le contemplateur est invité, dans un premier temps, à embrasser d’un regard englobant, et, dans un second temps, à détailler de près.
Les oeuvres minimalistes de Chantal Proulx sont élaborées dans une recherche d'équilibre entre les formes et les couleurs. Une première forme dicte la suite du tableau. C'est le centre de gravité autour duquel elle ajoute lignes et formes complémentaires. La palette de couleur limitée inclut toujours le noir ou le gris.
Quant aux oeuvres de style impressionniste, c'est au couteau que Chantal Proulx les réalise, en appliquant généreusement l'huile et en laissant les couleurs se mélanger naturellement directement sur la toile. Les formes sont ainsi simplifiées et se rapprochent de l'abstrait, laissant place à l'imagination du spectateur.
