Elena Done
Elena Done, a contemporary Spanish artist, is deeply immersed in the exploration of the nuanced dialogue between realistically depicted figures and dynamic, abstract, or decorative backgrounds. Her artistic expression is a canvas for conveying inner experiences and emotions, predominantly through the portrayal of female images.
Guided by a set of core values, Elena identifies Passion, Energy, Curiosity, Variety, Joy, Dignity, and Fantasy as the driving forces behind her creative endeavors. Passion and Dignity find their expression in the figurative realm, where Elena's love for people is evident, and the human form takes center stage as her favorite and most intriguing subject.
Energy permeates Elena's artistic process, evident in her use of thick, pastose strokes that create a rich texture. Layer upon layer, up to seven in some instances, adds depth to her works, crafting a unique personality and an aura that breathes life into each piece. Bright, vibrant colors are a hallmark of her art, reflecting the lively and energized atmosphere of the Spanish landscape.
In Elena's artistic world, Fantasy takes the form of Marvellous Realism. She skillfully combines figurative painting with decorative elements, seamlessly integrating ornaments into her compositions. This Marvellous Realism is not mere fiction; instead, it is an intricate fusion of original figurative elements and magical decorative contexts. The ornamental elements become integral parts of the composition, weaving into the plot and subject matter, creating a harmonious blend of reality and enchantment in Elena Done's captivating artworks.

MARVELOUS REALISM
The “Magic of Andalucía”, colourful flowers, tropical gardens, fabrics of flamenco dancers, spices of Morocco…. Culture is a mixture of Iberic, Roman, Visigoth, Arabic and Spanish roots. An honest translation of “Paradise”.
I have found myself relating with the term “Paradise”, from an idealist’s representation of “Paradise” to an everyday perception of smaller “paradises” of my heroes and their dreams.
I paint with thick pastose strokes to make each painting more profound, more “tangible”.
Texture is important to me, I can put as many as 7 layers with the purpose of creating depth, this depth expresses a unique personality and the aura of a living thing. This also means that every time you look at my painting – you will see different facets: - glimpses of light and color…….in my point of view, what it is all about.
The style that I paint this series can be called Marvellous Realism, I combine figurative painting with decorative elements, with ornaments. Each painting is a combination of life and artifacts, a real girl silhouette and Moroccan décor or tile, real flowers and plants and decorative flower ornament on fabrics. My marvellous realism It is not a fantasy, it is not a fiction, it is combination of a very original figurative and magical decorative context all together.

Silhouettes
You can access artist’s inspiration from the celebrations, dance events, ferias, festivals taking place in Andalucía, Spain
These feminine silhouettes were picked up in Sevilla, Granada and Malaga. Whirls of colors, passion, movements, happiness, fatigue, drama. Girls could be professional flamenco dancers or just models, dressed in traditional Spanish dresses.
The technique of this series is gouache and pastel over Canson paper. Drawings are made quickly as sketches, just to pick up a silhouette. And pastel strokes in several layers give the artworks depts and vibrancy.

These bright Spanish colors and shapes are charming. I saw Elena’s works at an exhibition in Barcelona, they look even brighter and more joyful in person. Elena herself is a positive and cheerful person. Amazing.
