I have always believed that real art has not only a decorative function but also an important and profound thought or idea. Art without thought is no longer art but design. Of course people are often "afraid" to have meaningful pictures, they want "something carefree and relaxed," they want to turn off their head. That's why all too often "flowery, pretty girls and abstracts" are bought as wall decorations rather than paintings that often have a deeper meaning than "just beautiful. Paintings with an idea unfortunately rarely find their connoisseur and collector. But such people are closer and more valuable to me because they understand that art is not only about the beautiful and the entertaining but also the serious and the real. When such a painting finds a buyer, I understand that all is not yet lost, that there is still a thinking art lover, and that it is worth continuing to work and create.

Propaganda kills - that's the main idea of this work which was created back in 2015. Texts containing pieces of truth and lies combine like jigsaw puzzles to create a situation of tension in society that most often leads to irreparable consequences. Already back in 2015 there were preconditions for what is now happening in Europe. But then it was only the beginning and it seemed that something else could be done and stopped. It seemed that people engaged in "educating the population", but in fact propaganda, would think about their words and stop. The words of propaganda first turn into a "tool" against sanity and then into a real weapon.

Yaroslav Kurbanov is a contemporary German painter. In his work, he takes up themes that are personally important to him: love and hate, loyalty and betrayal, fear and composure, discrepancies between the inner world of man and his "outside image", his "mask" that he wears for others. Kurbanov’s art attempts to answer questions: who am I, where am I going, what is the meaning of my life, what is happiness, what is love.

Yaroslav Kurbanov was born in 1968, in Russia. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, USA, China, Italy.
