Discover the impressive ”Massive Shadows”. In this photo you can see what happened in this square for 20 minutes. Look again at the image and what do you really see? People or shadows?
All photos from the fineart photography project “The World From Above” were taken straight down from public places open to everyone. All this without using a drone.
By combining dozens of images, a new photographic reality is created where time and space converge. On one hand, these are photos in which the minutes or hours that have elapsed in a certain place have been reduced to one moment. On the other hand, he has also made photos in which a new dimension is created by continuously repeating the same image to generate a new whole. At first the photos look very realistic, but when you look again, you get a surreal feeling.

Werner Roelandt is a passionate photographer who has created a unique artistic photography project: "The World From Above". This project came to mind when he gazed at the spectacular view from Preikestolen, Norway, looking over 600 meters down. This vertical view of the earth was so different from what he was used to seeing that he decided to change his horizontal perspective and start taking pictures "from above".
All photos in this project were taken from public places accessible to the general public, without the use of drones. The images are then carefully edited in Photoshop to bring Werner's vision to life.
In "The World From Above", Werner Roelandt uses a technique that consists of combining several images to create a new and fascinating photographic reality. The photos can represent unique moments, where several minutes or hours are reduced to a single image, or even images which, repeated several times, give rise to a new surreal dimension.
An engineer by training, Werner Roelandt is passionate about the technical aspect of photography and post-production. Thanks to Photoshop, he can bring his most creative ideas to life.
In addition to his passion for photography, Werner Roelandt is a great traveler. "The World From Above" is a collection of photos taken around the world, from sea level to an altitude of 3330 meters.
Werner Roelandt's work has already been widely recognized around the world. His project has won awards in numerous photography competitions, notably in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, London, Vienna, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Budapest.
"The World From Above" is a real visual journey and a testimony to the creativity and imagination of Werner Roelandt.
