Vasil Sumarau is a contemporary Belarusian artist. His artistic odyssey has been marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence, and his contributions to the realm of Belarusian art are profound. Sumarau embarked on his artistic education at the Minsk Art College in 1959, where he laid the foundational groundwork for his future artistic endeavors. Graduating from the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute in 1965, he honed his craft and refined his artistic sensibilities.

In 1967, Vasil Sumarau became a member of the esteemed Union of Artists, a recognition of his talent and dedication to the art form. This affiliation with fellow artists provided him with a platform to share his creative vision and engage with the broader artistic community.

Throughout his career, Sumarau's work has been celebrated and exhibited on both national and international stages. In 2010, the National Museum of the Republic of Belarus honored his contributions with the exhibition "Vasili Sumarau: Teacher and Students." This exhibition served as a testament to his role as a mentor and his influence on future generations of artists.

In 2018, Vasil Sumarau's art crossed borders and graced the Dafen International Oil Painting Biennale at the Dafen Art Museum in Shenzhen, China. His distinctive artistic voice resonated in the international art community, with his work often described as the "Red Square" of his own artistic realm, a nod to Malevich's iconic "Black Square."

The year 2019 saw Sumarau's art featured at the Beijing International Art Biennale, hosted by the National Art Museum of China. This global recognition further solidified his position as a prominent figure in the contemporary art world.

Vasil Sumarau's art can be found in prestigious institutions such as the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus and various modern art museums throughout Belarus. His work has also earned its place in the esteemed collections of the BSM and the Ministry of Culture of Russia, as well as in the Exhibition Association "Central House of the Artist" in Moscow.

Beyond Belarus, Sumarau's art graces the walls of museums in Ukraine, Russia, Uzbekistan, China, and many other countries. His pieces have found homes in private and corporate collections both in Belarus and abroad.

In recognition of his remarkable contributions to Belarusian art, Vasil Sumarau was honored as a "Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus" in 1981. This accolade was followed by the prestigious Order of F. Skaryna in 2012, the highest state award of the Republic of Belarus.
