Valérie a été influencée par ses voyages à Amsterdam (lumières changeantes et contrastées), Paris (premières bases techniques et approfondissement de sa grammaire coloriste), New York (ces goûts et son style se forgent au carrefour des multiples cultures).
A la fin des années 90, elle décide de suivre pendant 10 ans l’enseignement de Léon Bay. Elle apprend la technique des glacis, et l’importance des contrastes clairs/obscures.
Elle développe son style, sa palette de couleurs..
