[ when he could afford to buy his own drinks, tobacco and rolling paper,]
before all the world went wrong, he spent his time reading the classics...
too many years have now passed, and these days,

he sits in lotus upon this ground and feels at home...
back in those days,
[ when he could afford to buy his own drinks, tobacco and rolling paper,]
before all the world went wrong, he spent his time reading the classics...
too many years have now passed, and these days,
he prefers to sit alone among the dead and recite under his breath
a few remembered lines from wordsworth’s “daffodils”..................................................
he recalls that plato and socrates said this and la rouchefoucauld and voltaire said that;
but most deeply remembers the nite tommy, the old bartender, looked into his eyes
and said with sincere concern, “i’m worried about you vic, so this last round
and the cab i’m callin’ for you is on the house, then no more for you”...
it was tommie’s eyes and the humanity in his voice which saved him that nite...
tommie’s been dead close to a year now, and there’s no one left to care...
