“My name is Sutianto, but people call me “ Tanto “ for short. I was born in a cool village called Banyuwangi, East Java March 8, 1972. From 2000 I stay and paint in Ubud, Bali. When I was a child I wanted to be a great artist so I could travel all over the world. I think a lot about freedom, that anything can happen to anyone. His desire is his only command and no one can tell him what to do.
“I started to draw pictures from magazines when I was still in elementary school. To realize my childhood dream, I continued my studies at the fine art school in Surabaya, East Java. I also learned painting from a senior artist, M. Tholib Prasojo. I asked him many questions and learned many things from him. World nature and human social life inspire me in creating paintings with oil or acrylic on canvas.
“When I face a blank, white canvas, I am inspired by my feelings, by Nature or by my Environment. Starting from that point, I paint colors and lines that will outline a story of life.” Using broad rollers and brushes, builds up dense backgrounds of grey, lilac, ocher, green and yellow paint over which are dribbled thin lines of contrasting red or navy pigment. My creations on Abstract “Action Painting” Manner reflect all my enthusiasm, energy & turmoil.
My artwork in already found in several abroad & domestic collections.
I've also received a prize from Praktika Adhi Karya SMSR Surabaya.
