Stavroula Chronopoulou-Roux is a contemporary Greek artist based in France. Born in Greece and trained as a graphic designer, she has resided and worked in Lyon since 2012, enriching her personal world through the amalgamation of both cultures. Stavroula's creative focus predominantly revolves around the synthesis of techniques and the juxtaposition of figuration and abstraction, leading to an approach to subjects she defines as both absurd and contemporary.
In her artistic endeavors, Stavroula captures a realm of "inaccessible characters, mute witnesses of a moment T, sometimes blinded." Her figures, devoid of heroism or victimhood, simply exist as beings. The contemporaneity of her work emerges from the adept balance between perfectly identifiable figurative features and a deliberate confrontation with abstraction. Stavroula's art allows reality to escape into more abstract compositions, where the hint of a figure's interiority breaks free to become autonomous and free.
Utilizing photos or assemblies of photos rich in meaning, Stavroula engages in a transformative process by removing, adding, and altering elements. Her spontaneous and instantaneous gestures, executed with the utmost economy of means, liberate the line and the existence of the subject, creating space for emptiness.
