Since my childhood I have been living in Mumbai. The pace of the city in its fast and busy lane has always held my attention. This city speaks to me of its own visual language, which has a strong influence on me. My earlier paintings have a great impact of these constructional visuals in them.
As an observer through out my academic life I have gone through many phases. It was a difficult time crossing the academic limitation and also the works of my fellow artists, which had an influence on me. But I have remained strong enough in my process and emerged as an individual self. My journey from seeing visuals around me has simplified into a process of creating a visual on the surface.
Colours have always been the stronger part in my process. Since, I only feel colour; medium has hardly been a priority for me. I have never restricted myself to any particular surface or medium - oils, acrylics, wood, threads, pastels, mounts, metallic pieces and many more elements like these have contributed to my picture making.
The works attached with this write-up comprise of paintings from my earlier stage of visual making to my recent process of living the visual. My earlier works are on flat surface, they talk of the visuals as an independent body. This phase encompasses most of my drawings and colour. Here the line peeps in, giving way to a new process. Now the colour has transformed into the line itself. These works in my middle phase show a dialogue between colour and line. In this process I have reached a stage where now the colour, form and line have become one. My recent work speaks of colour as form itself and form as the existing space. I feel that it is difficult for an artist to talk about his own work theory because he is constantly engaged in the visual language hence I prefer to conclude my words.
I believe that I need to be constant in my process and devote maximum time for it, because there are many thing to be understood and many to be done.
