Sergey Artyukhov is a contemporary Kazakh sculptor. Throughout his adult life, he devoted himself to sculpting, initially gifting his early works to friends and colleagues. Currently, he is brimming with numerous ideas for creating products centered around genetics, specifically exploring the concept of hybrids combining human DNA with various types of animal and insect traits. The realm of space and genetic experimentation particularly captivate his imagination. Additionally, his commitment to the environment is evident as he creates all his artworks using recycled materials.
His artistic journey has led him to experiment with a diverse range of mediums, including stone, iron, glass, and plastic. Intrigued by the art of smelting, he began crafting figures from wax, coating them with plaster and cement, and subsequently baking the wax out of the mold. Independently following the drawings of a young technician, he constructed his own furnace for melting metal, preparing ingots, and pouring them into molds to create metal sculptures.
Fascinatingly, he also incorporates everyday objects into his work, such as plastic bottles, branches, and scraps of metal. Through keen observation, he discovers hidden elements within these objects that may serve as integral parts of his sculptures. Occasionally, while out walking with his dog, he collects stones, sticks, and discarded boards, later incorporating them into his artistic creations. In some instances, these found objects serve as the catalyst for his creative process, inspiring the overall image of the final product.
