Gusev Sergey Yurievich is a professional artist, teacher. Born in 1957 in a family of Moscow artists. In 1980 he graduated from the Moscow Art School “In Memory of 1905" and entered the V. I. Surikov Institute, from which he graduated in 1986 with honors (workshop of Professor-academician D. K. Mochalsky in the class of easel painting). He began his creative career in 1984 with the exhibition “Russian North”. Since 1989, he has been a member of the Moscow Union of Artists. Participates in Moscow, All-Russian and International exhibitions. And also held solo exhibitions in Russia, USA, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Cyprus. His works are kept in museums and private collections in Russia and abroad.

-"I was born in a family of Moscow artists, so from childhood I listened to conversations about art when friends came to my father and grandfather. They talked about art, philosophized, and discussed new trends in painting. As a boy, I went with my dad and his students to the open air. I tried to make sure that my work was no worse than that of the older guys. I have always been closer to the realistic direction in art, just like my ancestors.

For me, the god of painting is Titian, although I adore all Renaissance masters. Initially I started working with watercolor and mastered it well, but for me it was too light, transparent. I wanted to take the color in full force to make it sound!!! This effect can only be achieved in oil. In painting, I appreciate the color, the general tone most of all. Therefore, each of my works has its own individual, unique, color scheme. It depends on my mood, the situation and what I admired. Also, my work was greatly influenced by the Impressionists, whom I became interested in while studying at the college. Their expression, freedom of expression, bright and precise brushstroke delighted me. At one time Van Gogh became my idol, I imitated him, which greatly enriched my palette. And so far, this brushstroke technique is present in my quick sketches. When writing thematic paintings and portraits, I use a three-layer Italian technique, with imprimatur, under-painting, a dense load of lights and thin lessirovki at the end of the work."
