Юрий Самсонов получил основы профессионального художественного образования в своем родном городе Ленинграде , который родился здесь в 1961 году. Местом учебы был реставрационная школа, а творческую деятельность художник начал с конца 80-в год 80-в годо. В 1977 году Юрий Самсонов стал членом Союза художников России, где прошла его первая персональная выставка "Художник" открывшаяся весной 2013 года.

Каждая работа Юрия Самсонова - это экспромт, он их не изменяет и не уточняет. Он много пишет, но оказывается, что это малая часть, представленная публике. На раскрашенной доске он тратит примерно столько же времени, сколько требуется на высыхание краски. Это творческий принцип художника, работающего в стиле абстрактного экспрессионизма. Главное в этой технике живописи и рисунка - это предельно спонтанная работа, выполняемая исключительно под влиянием сиюминутного настроения, возникшего эмоционального состояния. Главное правило работы художников при использовании этого стиля - отсутствие каких-либо правил. к классической живописи.
