Il travaille comme décorateur mais abandonne cette activité dès 1953. Avec sa femme Thérèse et ses quatre enfants, ils ont vécu à Paris, à Saint-Malo puis à Sens avant de revenir entre Paris et Saint-Suliac dans la région de Saint-Malo.
Dans les années 50 il fait partie de « l’abstraction lyrique » et est présenté et défendu par Michel Tapié et Charles Estienne.
