Pia Andersen is a contemporary Danish painter. Her art is based on the impressions from endless journeys in Europe and South America. Nature and light serve as her main sources of inspiration. Andersen's works of art evoke a nature of their own and emphasize the pleasant aspects of life.
The way she applies the paint allows her to manipulate the light. Many little shadows are cast by an uneven surface. She can build a color from dark to light or vice versa using the layers in the painting, directing the light of the piece in a wholly physical manner.
Pia Andersen was born in 1960, in Denmark. She has studied at The Art Academy of Cracow, Poland and the School of Arts and Crafts, Kolding, Denmark. Andersen’s work is represented in numerous collections and institutions, including The National Gallery of Denmark; The New Carlsberg Foundation, DK; Oaxaca Museum, Mexico; Museum Vendsyssel, Hjørring, DK and Leopold Hoesch Museum, Düren, Germany.
