Peter Klashorst (1957) graduated in 1981 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. The 1980s are a period in which a new movement is emerging in Europe, that of the "wild painting" artists. Klashorst's painting style is immediately welcomed by this movement. Klashorst's painting style is immediately welcomed by this movement. After a number of exuberant and energetic years, Klashorst's powerful expressive style freezes. His canvases become abstract and cold and the colors disappear. Klashorst's work seems icy and indifferent. In 1987 Klashorst gets involved in a discussion with the Czech artist Jiri Dokoupil at an airport. The conversation is about the question of whether not all possible variations and movements within modern art have already been explored and, if so; what is left for the current artist who is looking for a distinctive style? The answer is found in the return to a traditional style. Captivated by enthusiasm, the artists make a start on the spot with the realization of their ideas. In the wake of a more international movement, the artist collective 'After Nature' was created in the Netherlands. As co-initiator, Klashorst is thus giving a new impulse to Dutch art history. The After Nature group, which includes founder Klashorst as well as the artists Jurriaan van Hall, Gijs Donker and Ernst Voss, opposes the prevailing abstract expressionism and caused a furore in the eighties and nineties with an innovative figurative painting style. The group's influence is enormous and one of its achievements is the return of realism in painting. Within this "natural" painting style, Klashorst adopts an unmistakable style of his own, which offers him a platform to develop and explore sub-styles. His progressive work and unique style have earned Klashorst several awards and his work can look forward to strong international interest. Klashorst frequently exhibits at home and abroad and his work can therefore increasingly be found in many important art collections, including galeria art-works calle paradis 3 08002 barcelona españa
