I wanted to paint this work without perspective and without the volume of 2D's as in Egyptian frescoes. I wanted to paint this work without perspective and without the volume of 2D's as in Egyptian frescoes. The ancient Egyptian canon required the depiction of each part of the body in such a way that it had been seen best. This results in a single figure of a person or god combining viewpoints from different angles. The head, arms and legs are always depicted in profile, while the eyes, shoulders and chest are depicted in full-face. This principle was extended to other subjects as well. I have used these principles in my painting: The table and the objects on the table are seen from above and the pomegranate in the girl's hand is seen in profile. The interior objects are depicted in full-face. The figure of the girl is also subject to these principles: The head is painted in profile and the shoulders are spread out. The face is painted schematically, only the eyes are emphasized and shown in full-face, too, with long eyelashes. The painting shows a room brightly lit with warm light, a background with a large blue-yellow pattern on the walls and a bouquet of roses on the floor. The overall impression of a glorious, cozy and cheerful evening is created by the warm color scheme using different shades of yellow, gold and ocher. What the beholders see is not the end of the story and so there may be a sequel - probably the girl in the room is waiting for someone to walk through the open door behind her.
