Marie Juge sculpts cracked black and white raku silhouettes.
Coming from the glassmaking tradition Marie Juge has evolved in the perfumery sector and more especially in bottle making. She became passionate about working with glass and was fascinated by the magic of fire. A chance meeting with a ceramist and a Breton sculptor during an exhibition introduced her to a Japanese cooking technique: raku.
Marie Juge chose clay as a means of expression because of the multiple technical possibilities of this material. The earth allows a wide variety of shapes ranging from a simple bowl to a very large sculpture. This size fan immediately appealed to him. She began for pleasure with a few utilitarian modeled pieces but quickly drifted towards the construction of more human forms.
Travels to various countries forged the imagination of Marie Juge who now draws on her
br />t in her memories to create her Characters: a line of travelers like her who travel through the exhibitions
according to her desires.
Africa and Asia are the two continents which inspire the most. The women there are beautiful and endearing with their costumes. Marie likes to highlight the detail of their clothing which determines their belonging to an ethnic group or a region of the country. This gives access to the dream without traveling.
Quite slender, its feminine silhouettes have grown steadily since its beginnings. The heads have a lot of importance and the hairstyles are rich in details: jewelry, hats; in a bun or braided hair is often adorned with turbans with graceful curves. The dresses are generally treated in flat areas on the plate. Then comes the work of the material, scratches, stamping of lace, search for raw parts as opposed to those smoothed or decorated.
The ceramic sculptor Marie Juge has exhibited regularly since 2004 in groups and personally. The Court of Crafts of Pont Scorff awarded her the 2nd Prize for Young Exhibitors in 2004 and awarded her the 1st Prize for Crafts in 2006.
She also exhibits regularly at the G.M.A.C. in Paris, place de la Bastille.
