“Lost Eden Garden”
Sometimes one goes out on a summer night, look at the world around and sees in it a beautiful, perfectly drawn theatrical scenery. As in the fairy tale about Pinocchio, it seems one pokes a finger and through the broken gap will feel the ringing backstage emptiness of the universe. But the next moment, one’s attention shifts, and again hears the murmur of water in the fountains, the rustle of leaves, the singing of birds. The world did not disappear anywhere and did not stop sounding, just for a moment I became insensitive to the pulsation of life.
I drew the figure of the girl in class from life, and the background was completed in the studio. The black and white spinning top in the foreground symbolizes the illusory nature of our world. The color scheme creates a feeling of ephemeral and unreality of what is happening, as in a dream.
This drawing is from the "Secret Garden" series created between 2021 and 2022, inspired by my visit to the Orange Garden in Rome. This is a one-of-a-kind drawing made by me in gouache and colored pencils on high quality paper. The image is signed by hand on the front side. Not framed.

Бываешь выходишь в летнюю ночь на улицу, смотришь на окружающий мир и видишь в нем красивую, идеально прорисованную ширму. Как в сказке про Буратино, кажется ткнешь пальцем и сквозь прорванную брешь ощутишь звенящую закулисную пустоту мироздания. Но в следующий момент внимание переключается, и ты снова слышишь журчание воды в фонтанах, шелест листвы, пение птиц. Мир никуда не исчезал и не переставал звучать, просто ты на мгновение стал не чувствителен к пульсации жизни.
Фигуру девушки я нарисовала в классе с живой натуры, а фон дорисован в студии. Черно-белый волчок на первом плане символизирует иллюзорность нашего мира. Цветовая гамма создает ощущение эфемерности и нереальности происходящего, как во сне.

Gouache

The substances are diluted with water and rendered pasty and opaque by the addition of gum and honey. The colors become opaque and can, therefore, be superimposed, which makes one paint with gouache as with oil. The gouache is recommended by its bright, fresh and delicate tones.

Surrealism

Founded in 1923 by the writer André Breton, it will unite many artists like Salvador Dali (1904-1989), Max Ernst, René Magritte (1898-1967), Victor Brauner (1903-1966). Influenced by psychoanalysis, they see psychic life as a new field for renewing the arts. They will develop new ways to create and use new materials.

Technic Drawing

Drawing is a technique of visual representation on a flat support. The term "drawing" designates both the action of drawing, the resulting graphic work, and the shape of any object. It is also a representation on a surface of the shape (and possibly the light and shadow values) of an object or figure, rather than their color. There are a large number of drawing techniques: “Linear drawing” represents objects by their outlines, edges and some characteristic lines; beyond this limit, the drawing develops by representing the volume by shadows, often by means of hatching, incorporates colors, and joins, without clear transition, the painting.

Natalie Levkovska

Lithuania

Natalie Levkovska is an experienced Lithuanian painter and illustrator. In 1995, she obtained a degree in stone, bone and wood processing from a master artist (Abramtsevo College of Applied Arts), and in 1999 she completed a degree in costume design (Vilnius Academy of Arts). She then became a costume designer for the cinema industry, and later a fur designer. In 2006, she decided to change her life: she moved to London to work in a design studio, and started to experiment oil painting.

She creates simple and poetic artworks, mixing surrealism and naive art. Her artistic universe is a kind of magic realism: she likes to show real life objects and try to bring out the magical pulsation of space. The plots of her creations are taken from her life: a birch glade near her house at different times of the year, the portrait of a loved one, her village in the snow...

Natalie Levkovska have organized 19 personal exhibitions, participated in a lot of paintings and drawings events, and her drawings can be found in many private collections.
