"Girl with Flowers"
Feb. 2020

The background is a detail of a destroyed church wall in Bihac, Bosnia (left) and a detail of a wall painting in the Saint-Salvator Cathedral in Brugge, Belgium (right).

The contrasting nowadays derelict walls with graffiti and the newly discovered 15th century wall paintings are both beautifully worn.

I took both photos on my travels in 2019, the details of these pictures are transferred to the canvas.

Added is the transfer paper collage of the girl, an earlier composition from 2016, called 'The Heirs 3'.

The two transfer layers are semi transparent, and are sharpened by the flowers underlining the composition.

The picture is an ode to refugee and migrant children.

Mixed media composition on 130 x 97 cm canvas.
Transfers, paper collage, pastels, acrylic and oil paint.
