Michèle Sauberli, a contemporary French artist, began her artistic journey as a student under the guidance of Georges Oudot. Transitioning into the role of a plastic arts teacher at the Lycée Cuvier in Montbéliard, she devoted herself to both nurturing young talent and refining her own craft. Notably, Sauberli's expertise extended to preparing students for competitions and creating captivating frescoes, nudes, and portraits. However, she garnered particular recognition for her evocative depictions of immense flowers, a hallmark of her artistic repertoire for approximately a decade.
Twenty years ago, Sauberli's artistic trajectory underwent a significant shift with chance encounters that proved transformative. Meeting calligrapher Hassan Massoud in Paris, followed by an encounter with Lichen Sun, catalyzed a profound evolution in her painting. These encounters served as a turning point, inspiring Sauberli to embark on a journey to China. It was there that Arabic calligraphy and Chinese ideograms ignited her passion for abstract painting, opening new doors of creative exploration.
In her works, Sauberli employs a dramatic palette reminiscent of a tragic opera, characterized by tones of black and red. This deliberate manipulation of color evokes a sense of intensity and tension, akin to the classical and structured tragedy of a plastic bullfight. Through her art, Sauberli delves into the complexities of human emotion, offering viewers a profound and introspective exploration of the human experience.
