Mateusz Stryjecki

Graduated in1983 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw Poland,

class of prof. Maciej Urbaniec and prof. Jerzy Tchórzewski.

Worked with several publishing companies and also for the Nationall Sports Center, creating illustrations, advertising materials, and graphic designs for magazines, books and other publications .

At the same time he was exhibiting his paintings in a number of Warsaw's art galleries.

In 1989 he moved to Canada, where he established an advertising agency and eventually taught at the Fine Arts Department of the Concordia University in Montreal.

In 1998 he returns to Poland and start working with many advertising agencies and publishing houses.

He became a teacher at the Warsaw School of Advertising , the largest educational institution of this type in Poland.

This School educates future artists in the areas such as drawing, painting, composition, graphic design, poster design, infographic, and typography.

Additionaly at the School, Srtyjecki lectures on many different aspects of the history of advertising in connection to the artistic fields.

Mateusz Stryjecki's paintings are often saturated with intriguing symbols from the border of dream and reality. In their ambiguity, they allow the viewer to interpret them and reflect on them independently.

The cycles of oil paintings currently being created are a continuation of the painting that started in the 1980s.

In 2020, a series of paintings were created in the style defined by the author as a "cosmic enigmatism".

Mateusz Stryjecki is a such a versatile artist – he is a poet and the author of three volumes of poetry. 

In the 1990s, he worked with the Le Groupe de la Veillée theater in Montreal, creating posters and marketing materials, but also composed and produced music for several theater productions. 

Three CDs with his chillout music have been later released in Poland. 

He also writes lyrics and composes music for songs that he performs as part of his song recitals.

A word from the artist:

As a young boy, I have read loads of science fiction books. 

I wanted to be an astronaut. 

In my dreams, I visited alien worlds and imagined what they could look like. It's been a long time since. Today I want to recall dreams of strange journeys to other galaxies. 

I decided to show these imaginary planets in the form of a series of images which I named:

 "The Mysterious Life of Planets". 

My paintings are meant to be an imaginary windows through which one can see strange landscapes of distant worlds. 

But on the other hand, if you want to call them a pure abstract - I don't mind it at all.
