Original Artwork refers to any work that is considered authentic and not a copy or imitation of the original works of an artist. Original artwork can be any type of painting, sculpture, performance, or other media. There are many types of original media. Mixed media includes oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings. For workshop paintings that bear evidence of master craftsmanship, this attribution must be further qualified. While they may be less valuable for different reasons, reproductions and copies have had a tremendous impact on our experience. They reach a greater audience than originals and act as a tonic against commodification. Original Artwork could also refer to the first work, which is always preceding all others. MARLISE WITSCHI, ABSTRACT PAINTING

Marlise has been painting since she was a little girl, growing up in Switzerland with a father who was a painter and sculptor.
At the age of 27 she immigrated to Montreal, Canada, and in 1997 she moved to the West Coast. Recently she moved permanently to Cozumel, Mexico.

Since 2007 she has been showing her work in different Shows in the Vancouver area and in the museum of Cozumel, Mexico.

TRAINING

Marlise is self taught. She attended many classes, workshops and retreats with painters from the US.

Marlise’s modalities are Acrylic paint and Mixed-media techniques.

ARTIST STATEMENT
When in her thirties, Marlise had a Near Death Experience, where she experienced that we are not bodies/persons, but Light, pure consciousness, formless and immortal...She realized that our true nature is love, joy and peace, and that the struggles we are battling with in our lives could be looked at differently, and embraced with peace.

Her paintings come from that open spaciousness and freedom she had recognized as our nature. They often express this play between the Light that we are, and the darkness that we fear.
She loves to paint abstractly, as the viewer is then free to see whatever they do in the painting. Thus, the act of creation takes place as much in the viewer as in the painter – they are same.

In summary, Marlise would love for her art to resonate with the freedom and peace which is fully alive in each one of us, so that the viewer can experience their infinite Being beyond language.
