Gilles de Rays - a medieval baron and knight broadly known as a fairy-tale hero Bluebeard. In real life he was a friend and comrade in arms to Jeanne de Arc and (up to some historical versions) the only one who tried to save her from the fire.

On this picture shows the future Bluebeard in the morning of Jeanne de Arc's execution. He's brought a troop to the town of Jeanne's imprisonment and they're ready to fight. Unfortunately, it's too late and Gilles sees the smoke of her fire while shaving his blue beard.

The picture is painted in oil on board, stylized as a medieval illumination.

Maria Iablonskaia was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1996. She began her artistic career in early childhood studying arts in art studios and with professional Petersburg artists. In 2014-2018 Maria studied painting and icon restoration in one of the most famous Russian Art Institutes: St. Petersburg State Academy of Art & Industries. Though a BA in Painting & Restoration she decided to focus on other her long-living passion - filmmaking, which became as essential part of her art life as painting and drawing.

Maria's art style is mostly influenced by traditional icon painting and western medieval illumination. Lots of her artworks are created using traditional icon painting technique which includes wood/board preparing and natural hand-made egg-tempera. She also works in such techniques as graphics, watercolor and oil painting.
