In der Ruhe Liegt Die Kraft I (Strength lies in serenity) is the first in a series of twelve small abstract acrylic and ink paintings reflecting my artistic journey this year (2022). In contrast to the frenetic use of color and palette knife strokes of the past year, this year's journey is one of calm introspection.

This collection of artworks were painted through layering acrylic paint and ink washes, finished off with bold strokes using either acrylic ink or a heavier bodied acrylic paint. There is still chaos and bridled energy on the surface to reflect emotions in response to current events, however, it is tempered by an inner calmness found in the base layers of the painting.

I’d like to say that I’m a self-taught artist. The truth is, it took countless hours reading art/creative books & articles, watching artists at work and taking informal online/offline classes to gain the knowledge I now possess. I will continue to learn from all those who came before me and the ones who come after.


Academically, I graduated with a degree in Sociology and took courses in Communications Research as well as Child Development. Career-wise saw me working in web development, training, sales, marketing and customer service.


In my mid-40’s I took up painting and realized, THIS, right here, is what I want to be - an artist. Every twist and turn my life took built up to this moment. Painting is a tool to express emotions more powerful than words can describe. And sometimes, there is no better emotion to express than simply creating something of beauty devoid of personal attachments or meaning.
