In the Song of Songs, King Solomon extols his wife's beauty, comparing her to the approaching dawn, irresistible like an army ready for battle. In Umberto Eco's novel The Name of the Rose, Melk's octogenarian Adso uses these same words to describe the beautiful girl who had been the one and only earthly love of his youth. Girlfriend, wife, lover, woman... Dangerously beautiful like a medieval army, banners raised, ready for war. Picture 016 - Terribilis ut Castrorum Acies Ordinata Oil on canvas 50 cm x 70 cm. July 2016. Fourth work in the “Auroras” series. In “Song of Songs,” King Solomon extols his wife's beauty, comparing it to the advancing dawn, irresistible like an army ready for battle. In the novel “O Nome da Rosa” by Umberto Eco, the octogenarian Adso de Melk appropriates the same words to portray that beautiful girl, who was the first and only earthly love in her youth. Girlfriend, wife, lover, woman... Dangerously beautiful as a medieval army with flags, ready for war.
