Luís da Cunha Pais is an artist photographer who seeks to find environments and details of reality that inspire him to take pictures, that tell him stories full of emotion and feeling, often traveling to the places of his childhood and to the roots of his human existence . Places where you search, where you get lost and where you find yourself again. It is in photography that, with lightness, he manages to express what he feels and in it he feels the love for life.
He was born in Angola in 1955 and it was in that land and in the calemas, an immense sea, that he experienced places of meditation, places where he sought meaning for his emotions. It was in the crash of the waves, against his chest glued to the sand at the bottom of the sea in calm weather, that he found a sense of belonging and security, where he could take refuge.
With photography, he seeks to capture the right angle, the best light and the best color, transforming reality into emotions and feelings that make us want to look, see, be there and feel that life, in its restlessness, coexists with beauty.
Luís da Cunha Pais left the profession of Industrial Technician around 30 years ago and started studying and working in photography. It was walking and “knocking from door to door” that he started to promote his photography until he got his first job, in a photo studio.
He studied at the Arco and Maumaus schools in Lisbon. He took several photography, video and Education through Art workshops, but it was the Fine Art workshop and the course with Thomas Joshua Cooper that made an impression on him.
Luís da Cunha Pais fell in love with photography and with each shot of his camera he is surprised and merges with the details of life and image.
