My Hippie Octopus is a Painting inspired by the '60s, to which I belong. The curves, the colors, (which are not so faithful to the reality of the Octopus, but to the brilliance of the time), the fluidity of those times and my freedom to always have shown my natural preference towards everything that was traditionally different, to the preference of the majority, and that I show in the representation of what is undoubtedly an octopus. Using mixed medium, which includes: Acrylic paint, inks, mediums to create textures, I achieve the Octopus tentacles as they are. The figure is shown in motion. The image is very "me"!

Artist: Painter/Architect, Lourdes Rivera, -LULU born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA, a bright and colorful island in the Caribbean, which has mostly inspired and define the particular color expression of the artist's palette and technique.  Naturally Art gifted; trained since childhood under Master Painter Fran Cervoni's teachings, commenced with pencil drawing, then charcoal and finally oil painting, which developed the passion for painting.  Painting since then; and later while studying Architecture and Music. Architecture formation as a multidiscipline, provided the design fundamentals, and a solid base to create everything after conceptualizing, with cohesion and harmony, achieving a mature artwork.  In recent years more actively Painting, experimenting with new materials, mediums and techniques: from Figurative, Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, to Fully Conceptual Abstracts.  Have held Collective and Solo EXPOS; tv interviews; received grants dedicated to selected Artists from the Flamboyan Foundation for Arts in Puerto Rico, (which includes among it's philanthropists: Lin Manuel Miranda & Mike Bloomberg); working as an Independent Artist including Special Commissioned Artworks.

Lourdes Rivera, -LULU is active in San Juan, Puerto Rico, working diligently on expanding her technique and adding new and exciting elements to her work. Passionate about Painting, she has a hunger for growing in format developing her own style: the Impressionist Expressionism, [or "Expressionist Impressionism"], in her undistinguishable colorful palette, which is her stamp and unequivocal mark. She has developed a very personal representative technique based on observation and on what the brain captures, (what she identifies as the brain's “interpretation templates”). So she tries to represent in her Work what the eye and mind really grasp from life from around us all: a kind of a compromise between the “infinite dimension of the mind interpretation” and the “finite physical reality”. Started exhibiting Individually and also Collectively; then selling Paintings and some of her Collectors have repeated purchasing (liking her among their favorites); participating in International online Art Contests; her technique and use of materials has also evolved from oil painting, to acrylics, mixed media; texture mediums, alcohol inks, resin, pastels, cheese cloth, etc.; and also works Figurative, Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, and her “Impressionist Expressionism”; experiments with more media and bigger format. Gives much importance that the Work shows depth, and that the elements are shown three-dimensionally.
