Louisa Vernet-Déan, a contemporary French painter, embarked on her artistic journey after completing studies in plastic art at Atelier BÔ in Nice, preparing for entry into the prestigious Villa Arson, the National school of plastic art. For the past two decades, she has been drawing inspiration from the enchanting shores of the Mediterranean and the foothills of Mercantour in the Alpes Maritimes. In this idyllic setting, she rediscovers the light and material pleasures rooted in her Friulian heritage, located in northern Italy between the Adriatic Sea and the Dolomites massif.
Déan's artistic process unfolds as a captivating exploration of material and light. Her canvas becomes a playground where instinctive flat areas of color come to life. Through a series of deliberate actions - scraping, sanding, reloading, and structuring with mixed techniques—she delves into the primal emotions embedded in her artistic expression.
The result is a manifestation of Déan's primitive emotion, captured through instinctive incisions, rapid left-handed strokes, and the subtle flat areas of her polychrome palette. Her unique approach to color and form has garnered recognition among her peers, solidifying her status as a distinguished colorist artist.
Louisa Vernet-Déan's work not only reflects her technical prowess but also serves as a visual narrative of her deep connection to the landscapes that inspire her. The Mediterranean and the Mercantour foothills become more than mere subjects - they are wellsprings of inspiration that fuel her artistic exploration, resulting in captivating compositions that celebrate the symbiotic relationship between light, color, and emotion.
