This painting represents a close-up view of the salt ponds of the Camargue, in the south of France on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. Under the influence of high heat, the algae “dunaliella salina” develops and gives a multitude of pink colors to the salt marshes, ranging from bright pink to pastel pink, including variations of purple. This algae is important because it is the favorite dish of “artemia salina” shrimps which are themselves the basic food of pink flamingos. It is thanks to this entire food chain containing beta-carotene that the feathers of these majestic birds are colorful. In July, this explosion of colors is particularly impressive. This landscape seen from the sky is directly inspired by the trip to Marseille by the artist Karine d’Arlhac. She particularly likes to have a window seat so that she can admire the landscapes she flies over, and marvel at the rich nature of our beautiful planet Earth. Here, she highlighted this sensation of a veil of mist which is released when the water evaporates under the action of the fiery rays of the sun, and giving an impression of blur, like a mirage.
