*****
This painting was awarded the “Swiss Art Expo Zürich 4.0” competition. It represents the clear, multicolored water of the “Cenote cristalino” of Playa del Carmen, in the Gulf of Mexico. The artist Karine d’Arlhac was amazed by the multitude of shimmering colors reflected by the light throughout the day. These cenotes are the result of collapsed caves, revealing open-air pools today dedicated to swimming, surrounded by rocks and in which mangrove trees grow. The artist wanted to reproduce the movement of the water which reflects the plants on the surface and the underwater coral rocks. Here, the colors are mainly the shades of blues, white, greens, yellows and grays of early afternoon when the sun is at its zenith. This landscape is directly inspired by his trip to Playa del Carmen in the Yucatán province. She fell in love with the place, dazzled by the charm of the translucent waters of the pools at the exit of the underwater caves.
