Judith Durr
Choctaw Artist
"The 'gift' of painting can be taught. However, the 'gift' of inspiration, dedication, and passion are within."
Judith Durr
Judith's goal is to preserve the legacy of the "First People". Her paintings clearly demonstrate her respect for her Choctaw/Cherokee ancestry. She has developed an exciting, unique, and spectacular style. Her genre includes First People's lives, Western life, Western landscapes, and historical research. Judith lectured at Northern Arizona University for the studies in Southwestern Life and Art.
Judith consistently demonstrates the rare and unique ability to touch the heart and emotions of all who see her work. Her "Signature" is the beautiful use of Native American rugs as a background. The detail is so complete, that it is not unusual to see a first time viewer of her work reach out and try to feel the fabric of the rug. Judith collects the artifacts used in her work, and some of these beautiful heirlooms have been passed to her through her family. The arrangement of her compositions and their histories are a continuing thread of beauty in all her work.
Judith is a member of "Women Artists of the West", the "Indian Arts and Crafts Association", and is listed on the official Choctaw Nation Artists Registry. Judith is an native of Arizona, and her studio, Mountain Studio, Inc., is in Cave Creek, Arizona. She is dedicated to realism in her exquisite
Judith also provides Giclees, Lithographs, and Posters of many of her original art pieces. A Giclee print is the finest graphic reproduction available today. Giclee is a French word meaning "Spray of Ink". Unlike posters or lithographs which are typically produced by a four to six color press, a Giclee print is individually created one at a time. Giclees are regarded as museum quality reproductions and have gained wide acceptance from museum, artists, galleries and collectors. In addition, Judith also provides, for selected pieces, Artist Proofs. Artist Proofs are the highest quality prints that have been actually been personally approved for color and quality by Judith.
