Joyce Fournier
Joyce Fournier is a Canadian multidisciplinary painter and sculptor living and working in Toronto. Art is her true passion and she has had an extensive practice for more than 25 years.
Joyce's current focus is Abstract Expressionist painting using a palette of white, black, and gold to create gestural pieces in a variety of collections inspired by the works of Franz Kline, Robert Motherwell, and Pierre Soulages. It is the immediacy of gestural painting that excites her. She wants those in her audience to see what uniquely speaks to them, depending on their situation.
Her secondary practice is in sculpture, both abstract and figurative. Interpreting the human form was Joyce's first passion for which she was academically trained. Her most recent works are figurative sculptures in Clay and Bronze as well as mixed-media abstract wall sculptures (Formations Series).
Over the last fifteen years, Joyce has exhibited in solo and group shows within Canada and internationally. Featured on several occasions in American Art Collector magazine since 2009, her work is found in private and public collections in Canada, the USA, and Europe.

Thinking in Red • 8 artworks
View allThey are created by gradually building up several layers of paint, first with the use of brushes and then finished with various-sized palette knives. Each work, where RED is the main event, has a multitude of variations of red and/or orange, sometimes pink, dark greys and black, and often gold.

Eclectic Vision • 13 artworks
View allMost of the paintings are gestural, otherwise known as 'action works'. There is a strong use of color, often red and sometimes pink, along with shades of grey and black, and almost always gold pulling the viewer into the work. Each painting begins with a textured application of Acrylic Gesso to create a design after which acrylic paint is applied allowing the underpainting to show through and add interest. Splatters, drips, and markings are a big part of the process.
