ORGANIQUE 3 (2022) Painting by Joël Waterkeyn

Artistic approach in painting: I leave things to chance with lines and areas of color applied instinctively, with a brush and most often with a knife, according to my emotional state of the present moment. Sometimes in an altered state of consciousness during this "action painting", being trained in self-hypnosis. From these first patterns, I "build" the work by seeking a balance in the composition both in terms of form and chromaticism. Acrylic. Relatively rough lines, rarely geometric; more or less thick multilayers, sometimes drips.
I "consciously" have no visual support nor any desire to reproduce any physical reality. Some shapes, some patterns may resonate with known shapes but this is not my intention and it depends on everyone's perception.
I favor forms that “work the eyes”: visual exploration of the different resonances of the work through visual circuits that I wish to make fluid without defining too dominant points of fixation of the gaze.
Current influences and sources of inspiration: American Abstract Expressionism with
de Kooning, Pollock, Mitchell, Rothko, Krasner and many others.
Lyrical abstraction with Mathieu; Dubuffet, Atlan, Hantai. Sensitive to Impressionism (Monet).

Workshop in France in Juziers (Yvelines) in the Seine Valley.
