This mixed media piece is composed of two of the artist’s metal sculptures photographed against one of his painted/printed backgrounds. As with most of the artist’s work, A BOY AND HIS DOG is a car themed piece. The “boy” is actually a mask, LOCOLOBO, that the artist decided to expand on by creating a skeletal body to accompany it. The mask is derived from recycled oil pans. The skeleton is made of flattened windshield wiper parts with a few parts from a clutch. The surfaces are painted with multiple layers of paint that are sanded through to give a marbleized look. The “dog” is made from separator plates from an automatic transmission. Each tire tread was made out of foam by the artist and block printed onto a masonite panel for the background. This work is a refection of the artist’s concern for the victims of our transportation choices. These are only the obvious victims, we don’t see the damage done by exhaust, tire dust, and stress.

Though I trained in Ceramics, I had exposure to sculpture while in art school and after many years as a ceramicist, I moved into sculpture exploring mediums until I discovered car parts, welding and shovels. It's been downhill ever since. During my car part exploration, I was also a transportation activist. I discovered car parts in Maine in 2005, moved to Watertown, NY  in 2009, to Kingston, Ontario in 2011 and Fort Erie Ontario in 2020.  My art career has consisted of solo shows,  grants for community based art and schools and an art activity printing t-shirts with car parts and tires that I presented at festivals, art centres and schools. I currently have some gallery representation, but am mostly  going the on-line sales route.
