Jean-Thomas Bédard is a professional photographer from Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec (Canada). Painter, filmmaker and photographer, he started drawing at the age of 12. At 20, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Montreal, then the animation department of the National Film Board. He was responsible for directing animated films and documentaries for more than 30 years. His animated short L'âge de Chaise - Chairmen has won awards at several international festivals.

At 32, he embarked on a year-long trip around the world where he became very interested in photography. This led him to present in Montreal and Toronto an exhibition on traditional ways of life in Central America, the Pacific and Indonesia (York University). He has also exhibited his paintings in Montreal, Quebec and Vancouver at different locations.

In 1985-86, he became an animation trainer at the Centro technico e audiovisual in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Back in Quebec, he continued to make documentaries such as The Crossing of the Night, Father for Life, and The Unfinished Journey. In 2003, his career was put on hold.

Since 2011, he has been experimenting with the textures and colors of nature in photography to create pieces that sometimes resemble abstract art and sometimes a poetic universe. His favorite subject was the many facets of the St. Lawrence coast that could be seen when the tide was low.
