Jacques Desvaux (JD)
Jacques Desvaux, a contemporary French artist, embarked on his journey into the world of art at the tender age of 20, when he began collecting works by various artists, starting with Joël Lacroix. Over the course of the next decade, he expanded his collection, acquiring pieces from artists like Garrido, Jacques Deschamps, Gérard Desplanques, and Pier Brouet. However, it wasn't until 1986 that he found himself drawn to the world of painting, thanks to the encouragement of his friend Pierre Juhel, also known as Judikahel.
Influenced by his encounters with artists such as Jean-Claude Casanova and Henri Crocq, known for their lyrical abstraction, as well as Alain Bertrand, an abstract painter, Jacques eventually took up painting himself in 1997. Under the guidance and support of his wife Thérèse, who had studied at the Beaux Arts de Roubaix and worked as a decorator, Jacques honed his skills and found his artistic voice.
Jacques had the privilege of receiving advice from his brother-in-law, Alain A. Marchand, a painter and former professor of Fine Arts in Paris. Their artistic exchange and collaboration further fueled Jacques's passion for painting, leading to exhibitions at prestigious venues such as the Château de Gréoux-les-Bains.
Throughout his artistic journey, Jacques explored a variety of styles and approaches, blending elements of figurative and abstract art. He found himself categorized as a painter of singular expressionist art, yet he preferred to be recognized as a semi-dry art painter, drawing inspiration from brut art, naive art, and contemporary figuration.
Renowned for his skillful use of color, Jacques's paintings are often characterized by their humor, sarcasm, and poetic sensibility. His works have garnered recognition from institutions such as the General Council of the Alpes de Haute Provence, which acquired two of his paintings. Jacques's art has also found homes in private collections across France, Switzerland, Germany, Brazil, and Morocco.
While Jacques's artistic journey has taken him far and wide, he remains deeply rooted in the Alpes de Haute Provence, where he continues to exhibit his work, particularly as part of the Art of May in Digne. Through his paintings, Jacques Desvaux invites viewers into a world of color, humor, and imagination, leaving a lasting impression on all who encounter his art.

Nouvelle Galerie
