Sculpture: Wood
Ivan Gracner is a Serbian born sculptor whose work employs a Minimalist vernacular in the creation of monolithic and expressive forms. Using rustic and industrial materials, including wood and various metals, the artist is able to combine contrasting textures and surfaces. His forms vary, and can include the rigidity of Minimalism with the fluidity found in Constantin Brancusi’s oeuvre. The artist also incorporates color, creating unique instances of bare industrial materials juxtaposed with painted surfaces, similar to works by John Chamberlain. Born in 1975 in Serbia, Ivan Gracner graduated in 2010 with a MA in sculpture from the University of Arts in Belgrade. Since 2002, he has taken part in over 100 exhibitions around the world, including Bosnia, Bulgaria, Italy, France, Greece, Montenegro, Austria, and Serbia.
