THE DOORS IN THE EPOH The high-rise at Barrikadnaya Stalin's high-rise
The skyscraper near the Barrikadnaya metro station was designed just after the end of the Great Patriotic War. And it was to become one of the symbols of the new era. The Stalin skyscrapers were laid on the same day and hour to mark the city's 800th anniversary: one structure for every hundred years.
The building on Kudrinskaya Square was erected between 1948 and 1954. It took just 6 years to erect the 156 meters high building. The high-rise consists of three blocks: the main block with the spire has 24 residential floors, the two side blocks have 18 floors each. The strong foundations of the building, which concealed a bomb shelter, had to withstand a direct hit by an aircraft bomb. The bunkers, which protected against atomic weapons, were only just being erected and needed to be placed deeper.
In the film Moscow Doesn't Believe in Tears, the characters dine in the flat of this house, but formally, the building was not involved in the shooting.
