Description: The point of view of this fabulous sculpture of Velazquez, created by Aniceto Marinas in 1899 and located next to the Prado Museum, permits to appreciate two relevant traits of the genius painter: his artistic facet as well as his knightly and courageous one. These two attributes, his adventurous spirit and sensitivity, help form this artwork. Velazquez appears surrounded by four rainbow lorikeets from the Australian subtropical forests, with an outfit that emulates their colors. This piece represents a reciprocal relationship: on the one hand, these flashy birds seem to be the whimsical occurrence of a brilliant painter (observe the tip of the brush, which shows the colors that make up the parrots); and on the other hand, the painter's clothing appears tinged with the same tones of the birds, as if it was the beauty of nature which causes for the first time the sensitivity love art or to become an artist.
