Aguarela s/papel Arches 300g- Watercolor on paper ---> Some information about this painting: As I always say, Alvor is my 'second home'. I mean, It’s here that I stand many days of my life, to rest (but… an artist never rests :) ) or just for painting and stand near the sea. This painting represent a beautiful alley full of flowers from Alvor, a small and picturesque fishing village located in the county of Portimão, Algarve, south of Portugal. In 2011 the census confirm that this small village had a little more than 6,000 inhabitants, but as almost all the Algarve coast, the population increases in Summer. The history tells us that Alvor date of time before the Roman occupation and was called “Ipses”. However, the Moorish occupation, between centuries VII-VIII, Ipses came to be called "Al-Bûr" - the origin of the present name.
Similar to what happened with other parishes since ancient times fishing is the livelihood and the 'bread and butter' of Alvor’s population. But Alvor also accompanied the expansion of Canning Industry, since it gaves work to many people. However, from the 1960's, the excellent natural conditions allowed a major tourist surge and subsequent development of other activities liking it. In summer, the lonely Alvor with great weather and blessed with beautiful and long beaches, amazing landscapes, picturesque alleys, golf courses and many many water sports, become this little village agitated and attractive, full of people from all over the world who on vacation or on business for there will flowing ever in greater numbers. In fact, almost entire Algarve’s coastal area is like Alvor (or like Carvoeiro, as I pointed out in one of my last posts, accompanying the picture of my painting "Carvoeiro Beach")
