Alguma informação / Some information:

This painting represents one of the most pleasant corners of Alvor - a small and picturesque fishing village located in the municipality of Portimão, Algarve, south of Portugal, a place of great tourist affluence in summer. In 2011, the census confirms that this small village had just over 6,000 inhabitants, but like most of the Algarve coast, the population increases in summer. History tells us that Alvor dates from the time before the Roman occupation and was called "Ipses". However, the Moorish occupation, between the seventh and eighth centuries, Ipses came to be called "Al-Bûr" - the origin of the current name.
One of Alvor's historical sites is the Mother Church, a highlight of Manueline-style architecture in the Algarve. Built in the 1920s, this church features one of the region's most beautiful Manueline porticoes, decorated with motifs alluding to fauna and flora, warlike scenes and religious symbols.
Inside, the 18th century tiles stand out, as well as the rich images on the six gilded altars. Here is also the famous and miraculous image of the “Lord Jesus”, which according to legend gave to the coast and was placed on the altar by the fishermen of Alvor.
