Ilia Potapov is a contemporary Russian painter. His primary source of ideas is society. Events in the world, generational values, communication technologies, family settings, and traditions. He likes to refer to it as ordinary surrealism or stunning parodies of regular activities. Ironic cuts by the artist frequently betray even serious subjects.
His primary media are canvas and oil. According to him, this material is the most expressive due to the semantic load he applied to the canvases. He frequently uses acrylic as a process, but usually in support of oil, to create more textures and layers.
