Qingming Festival is one of the twenty-four solar terms in the Chinese lunar calendar. It, along with the Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival, is known as one of China's four major traditional festivals. Qingming Festival encompasses both natural and cultural significance, serving as both a point in the natural solar term and a traditional celebration. During this period, vitality is abundant, and all things "discard the old and usher in the new," presenting a scene of spring and clarity on the earth. It is an opportune time for spring outings and paying respects at ancestral graves.
This painting is inspired by the Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu's 'Qingming':
"At the Pure Brightness Festival, the rain falls ceaselessly,
On the road, travelers' hearts are heavy with sorrow.
I inquire of a tavern along the way,
A shepherd boy points to Apricot Blossom Village."

Hui Li is a contemporary Chinese artist based in Canada, whose artistic journey spans a diverse range of mediums and styles. She initially pursued an undergraduate degree in Art Design before delving into Art History, Printmaking, and Oil Painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the 1990s. In 2001, she completed her Contemporary Art Graduate Program at the same institution, marking the commencement of her independent artistic career in Beijing.

Li's artistic repertoire is extensive, encompassing oil painting, copperplate engraving, silk screen printing, digital art, mixed media painting, installations, video, and sound mediums. In her early career, she showcased a strong modern figurative pop style in oil paintings such as the "Fuwa" series, "Lala" series, and "Jungle" series. However, since 2016, she has undergone a stylistic shift towards abstract mixed media painting. Currently, she splits her time between Canada and China, bridging the cultural and creative landscapes of both nations.
