Desde 2019 que tenho vindo a formalizar o meu trabalho artístico na criação de pinturas sobre alto-relevo. Peças que são modeladas com massa de alisamento, através do auxílio à reutilização de utensílios para alimentar, tais como facas e colheres. E, de seguida, pintadas com tinta de esmalte interior brilhante, pelo manuseio de trinchas e pincéis.

Desde 2019 que tenho vindo a formalizar o meu trabalho artístico na criação de pinturas sobre alto-relevo. Peças que são modeladas com massa de alisamento, através do auxílio à reutilização de utensílios para alimentar, tais como facas e colheres. E, de seguida, pintadas com tinta de esmalte interior brilhante, pelo manuseio de trinchas e pincéis.
Este encontro de expressões plásticas, que oscila entre a fronteira omnipresente do tradicional e do contemporâneo, é assente na superfície do plano da tela pictórica e emerge, por vezes, pela volumetria tridimensional da matéria, e, outras, pelo simples relevo da linha.
Nas pinturas sobre alto-relevo, que são pintadas como pinturas e pesadas como esculturas, narra-se por meio de um leque de elementos figurativos, momentos da minha vida, próxima e distante, com recurso à memória individual. Estas experiências, representadas dentro e fora de casa, evidenciam questões de inclusão social, relembram a biodiversidade do território nacional e embelezam, também, o conceito de senciência animal.

Hugo Castilho, a contemporary Portuguese artist, infuses his work with an illustrative character reminiscent of traditional Portuguese tiles. His high-relief paintings come alive with depictions of human figures, animals, and nature, creating a visual tapestry that celebrates life in a vibrant and colorful manner. Themes of memory and fantasy serve as the narrative foundation for his art, which is characterized by inclusivity, ethical considerations, and a touch of humor.

In 2016, Hugo graduated in Visual Arts with a specialization in Multimedia from the University of Évora. Building on his educational foundation, he completed his Masters in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon in 2021.

Hugo Castilho has showcased his artistic prowess in both individual and collective exhibitions. He held solo exhibitions at the Espaço das Artes of the Casa da Cultura de Setúbal in 2017 and 2019, and at the Galeria Arte Periférica at the Centro Cultural de Belém in 2022. In collective exhibitions, he contributed to shows such as the one at Zetgallery in Braga in 2019 and the Drawing Room Lisboa at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes in 2021, where he was represented by Galeria Arte Periférica. Through his distinctive style and thematic richness, Hugo Castilho continues to make a notable impact on the contemporary art scene.
