Hippolyte Lafabrie, known as Hippo, is a contemporary award-winning French artist. His paintings and collages speak the same language, populated with fantastical creatures who frequently compete with the subject matter. Paint, pencil, marker, cardboard, paper, canvas, wood, plaster, vinyl glue, and a variety of other materials were used to support his "playground" and mixed techniques. Except for the collages, where he moves forward by feeling to establish a unity, sometimes by following a theme, each painting begins life in a sketchbook.
Since he has been drawing since childhood, drawing is an important, structuring part in his artistic journey. His favorite artists were initially comic book artists, then graffiti artists, the Figuration libre movement, Keith Haring's paintings, Basquiat, Combas, Speedy Graffito, Blake the rat.
Hippolyte Lafabrie was born in 1971, in France. He exhibited works in France and Germany.
